From Hard Beginnings To Trusted Hands
The story of a Roseburg craftsman who built a business on grit, heart, and integrity.
Some people enter the trades.
Some people are forged by them.
For the founder of Prompt Home Repairs, the work began long before he ever picked up a tool.
He grew up in a hard home.
Then a group home.
Then a chance encounter changed everything.
“I met a realtor who flipped houses in California. He showed me the basics.
Contractors taught me even more. Especially the ones who knew how to work on older homes.”
That was the beginning.
He was eighteen.
Hungry to learn.
Ready to build a better life.
And he did.
A Path Built By Hand
He apprenticed under a contractor with more than twenty years of experience. Eventually they flipped homes together. He spent three decades learning the craft, day after day, job after job.
What did all those years teach him?
“Lead with integrity. If you make a mistake, own it. Leave the ego behind. Even after thirty years, I am still learning.”
Then life pulled him north to Oregon.
His wife.
Their first son.
A desire to raise a family somewhere safe and grounded.
Douglas County became home.
In 2012 he launched Prompt Home Repairs and never looked back.
The Hardest Part
The tools came easy.
The business did not.
“The biggest challenge was not the work. I understood construction. The hard part was learning how to run a business.
Accounting.
Credit.
Loans.
Legal responsibilities.”
With support from his wife and a few strong partners, he figured it out.
One step at a time.
One late night at a time.
When It All Clicked
He knew he was meant for this long before the company existed.
“I realized it in school. I would stare out the window and wish I was working with my hands.”
The trades gave him purpose.
They also gave him a way to help people in moments when help matters most.
One project still stays with him.
A home destroyed by fire.
Almost nothing left to save.
“We restored the home to its original shape. The family moved back in. They finally felt they had a home again.”
What Makes A True Professional
A licensed, insured, and bonded contractor carries responsibility most people never see.
“A true professional is accountable,” Andrew said. “Weekend warriors mean well, but homeowners end up paying for it later. I fix a lot of those jobs.”
He works with experience.
With clarity.
With respect.
And customers notice.
“The most rewarding part is seeing them excited at the end,” he said. “When they call back months later wanting more work. That tells me we did something right.”
What He Loves Most
Flooring is his favorite type of job.
Quick transformation.
Instant beauty.
A clean finish that sparks joy.
“I like seeing the look on their face when we turn something messy into something beautiful.”
There are lighter moments too.
Years ago he found a box of abandoned kittens during a flip.
He brought them home.
His wife and daughter bottle-fed them.
Those kittens became Snickers and Rollo.
Still alive.
Still spoiled on the daily.
The Future Of Prompt Home Repairs
The company is growing.
Carefully.
Intentionally.
Their vision is generational.
More homeowners served.
More community support.
More donated labor.
More veteran, senior, and friends-and-family discounts.
“We want to leave a legacy. Something our kids and grandkids can be proud of.”
His Advice To New Entrepreneurs
“Do something you love,” Andrew said. “Starting a business is hard. Make the right connections. Listen to people with real experience. Douglas County is full of good people. If you find your niche, you will do well.”

Marketing Minute: Your Website Looks Great. But It Does Not Sell.
Most small business owners in Roseburg make the same mistake.
They build a pretty website.
They fill it with nice colors.
Nice photos.
Nice words.
But it does not sell.
Because looking good is not the same as communicating clearly.
People do not buy because of your design.
They buy because they understand what you do.
And how fast you can help them.
Your homepage needs three things.
A clear headline.
A simple offer.
And an obvious next step.
That is it.
If you sell hot tubs, the headline should say you sell hot tubs.
If you clean windows, the headline should say you clean windows.
No cute slogans.
No clever lines.
People do not have time to decode your message.
Your offer should be one sentence.
Your call to action should be one button.
Make it easy.
Make it fast.
The businesses winning right now in Roseburg are not the most creative.
They are the most straightforward.
They remove confusion.
They remove clutter.
They remove friction.
When people land on your website, they should know exactly what to do.
Call you.
Book with you.
Buy from you.
If your site makes them think, they leave.
If your site guides them, they stay.
And when they stay, they buy.
Keep it simple. Keep it clear. Keep it focused.
That is how small businesses win online.
P.S.> If you want me to review your website and tell you what is confusing your customers, reply with “website check.”
Email Marketing Is The Small Business Superpower You’re Not Using
Most small business owners work too hard for too little attention.
You post on social. You boost a few ads. You hope someone sees it.
But there is a better way.
Email.
Email cuts through the noise.
Email goes straight to the person who actually asked to hear from you.
Email is attention you own.
And in a world where platforms change the rules every day, ownership is everything.
Why Email Works So Well
People check email every day.
Most check it several times a day.
Your message shows up where they already are.
No chasing. No hoping. No begging the algorithm.
Email builds trust fast.
Your name keeps showing up.
Your value keeps stacking.
People begin to feel like they know you.
And people buy from people they know.
Email also scales.
You write it once.
You send it to everyone.
One message.
Dozens of responses.
Hundreds of eyes.
A steady drip of sales.
Why Small Businesses Miss Out
Most small businesses skip email because they think it’s complicated.
Or they think nobody will sign up.
Or they worry they have nothing to say.
None of that is true.
Start small.
A simple welcome email.
A weekly tip.
A spotlight on a product.
That alone puts you ahead of 90 percent of small business owners in town.
The real mistake is ignoring the list you already have.
Your customers.
Your leads.
Your past buyers.
People who already trust you.
If you aren’t emailing them, you’re leaving money on the table.
What You Can Do Today
Take one action right now.
Pick a simple email marketing platform.
Mailchimp.
ConvertKit.
Brevo.
Any of them work.
Create one list.
Add the customers you already have.
Then send one short message.
Thank them for being part of your world.
Share one tip that helps them.
Invite them to reply.
That’s it.
You just launched an email strategy.
You just created a new marketing channel.
You just took one step toward building a business with staying power.
Email doesn’t need to be fancy.
It just needs to be sent.
Consistency beats perfection.
Value beats polish.
Start today and your future self will thank you.
